I watched the movie "In The Valley Of Elah" today. I think it was a really good movie. Emotional in many parts, but good acting. I have more of an understanding now about how tough it is for some soldiers over there in Iraq and the Iraqi people.
My step dad was in the Korean War. He used to have these horrible nightmares. He would scream out "shoot the s.o.b" in the middle of the night. He slept with a shotgun under his bed. No doubt he had PTSD. He had no tolerance for any misbehaviors of his step kids. If he asked us to do something we certainly would jump to do it or we would have his wrath of yelling, screaming or my brothers would get the belt or boat paddle hitting them. I am grateful none of us are violent like the way my step dad was. He may have been different if he got some help he surely needed, but he never was one for counseling or so called "airing your dirty laundry" with others. We were told to not go telling anyone about our family business. So growing up was tough. Sometimes I wanted to tell teachers about the meanness of my step dad, but I was too scared to tell. He sure put the fear in me and my brothers. Well, I am happy today I don't live with violence like that.
