Small Quilt and Pillow I Made - Cat Design

The story behind this. I got a little brushed blanket from a nephew as a gift. I wanted to see if I could somehow make it last longer. So I sewed these materials to it. I had fun making this. I went to the fabric store and I just searched through lots of fabrics till I found the ones I wanted to use for the quilt and the pillow. And this was the result. The little brushed blanket is on the back of the quilt. It still has lasted for years. :-)

Terms of Endearment on DVD from 1983

I am not sure how many times I have seen Terms of Endearment. It is one of my most favorite movies. I checked it out from the library today. It won five Academy Awards. It is truly one of the best movies I have ever seen. No matter how many times I see it I can't get away from it without crying. There is such good acting in this movie!

The relationships between all the different actors is done so well. From the youngest to the oldest. My favorite actor in this is Jack Nicholson. I seem to like him in almost every movie he has done. So if you are in for some laughs and tears, this is the movie to see. And if you want to get it for free, just check it out from your library. If your library doesn't have it you can get it from another library with an interlibrary loan. I get lots of DVD's that way. You may have to wait for a bit, but it is worth it when movies you want to see come in and all you have to do is use your library card. I love free stuff.

Denim Quilt I Made - 18 years old now

I made this quilt 18 years ago. It got a bit worn and had to be patched here and there, but still is in one piece. Denim really holds up well. I wound up sewing a wool blanket to the back of it and this is a very warm quilt for the winter. Actually I had some flannel that was on the reverse side and that wore out, so I replaced it with the wool blanket. I finally took off loads of blankets off my bed as it isn't as cold as it was during winter. I didn't realize I had so many blankets on my bed, LOL.

The story behind the denim: My husband was a union carpenter. He would wear out his jeans fast. So I used denim from that. Then I quit wearing mini skirts, so I cut up some denim from those. And my little boy at the time outgrew some stuff with denim and I sewed stuff on it from him. And I no longer wore a Maternity Dress and used some of the denim from that. And I made this when my little boy was two and he was so happy watching me create it. I am glad the quilt is still around.

Reminiscing on TV Shows and Junk Foods

Today I am thinking about my childhood TV shows I watched. Let’s see if I can remember them. I watched “The Jetson’s, The Flintstone’s, The Ruff and Reddy Show, Tom and Jerry, Felix The Cat, Casper, The Captain Kangaroo Show and The Hobo Kelly Show. I was actually in the studio audience of The Ruff and Reddy Show. I won different things just for being an audience member like Bosco Chocolate Syrup, Some kinds of candy’s and other odds and ends that were most likely made out of sugar.. It was fun. We sure were sugar addicts as kids. Fizzie’s were one of my favorite and we would let them fizz in our mouths instead of the water to make the drink. Loved Double Bubble Bubble Gum and I ate so much junk food as a kid. I remember one of my favorite things was to buy a coke, doritos and a three musketeers bar and have that for lunch. I was lucky that I was active and didn't gain weight back then. Today it is different. I have to really watch what I eat. Glad I'm not into the junk foods today and like getting exercise and eating right.

Downtown Fort Bragg is not that big, but there are plenty of places to visit. These are just a few views of things in our town.

Guest House Museum

You can learn lots about the history of Fort Bragg here. These are just different views of the museum. It is fun at Christmas time here as Santa arrives and the kids get to greet him and tell them what they want for Christmas. Also a big tree is put up in front and Christmas carols are sung. The hill in front of the museum has been rolled down by many kids young and old alike. Just have to have someone to spot you at the bottom so you don't hit the sidewalk or the street! Remember those times of rolling down hills? :-)

Coast Water Festival

Saw people setting up this event to raise awareness about the environment and not polluting our oceans or lakes, etc. Saw lots of little activities for the kids to do. Look at the size of the Earth Ball. I am sure the kids will have fun with that. Nice the town cares about the environment and helps make sure little kids learn young about taking care of the earth.

"Three Little Words" book

I read a book called "Three Little Words" which is a memoir by Ashley Rhodes-Courter about a young girls experience in the foster care system and then about how she does finally get adopted at around age 12. She survives many horrible things in the foster care homes then even goes on to college and to doing well in her life. It was a really good story to read. Correcting my spelling and grammar

Sometimes I write on here and make mistakes. I re-read it and I see the mistakes. But I still don't know how to go back and fix the errors yet. So bare with me until I figure that part out. I will try to proofread things before sending them the next time. I just found out how to do this now, Yay! Thanks to Emily for explaining it to me.

The DVD "Paradise Now"

I saw the movie "Paradise Now". It was about two men who decide to be suicide bombers and the story that ensues around that decision of theirs. This movie had a high rating, so I that is why I chose it. I have decided to view movies with high ratings lately. That movie got me to thinking a lot about how other people live in other countries like Palestine. I think those of us who have peaceful places to live in are very lucky indeed. I looked up a town in Palestine from the movie, Nablus, and I saw photos of the destruction done there. It is sad things are the way they are in certain places of the world and that is an understatement, I know.

Pine Tree - Sick or Not?

Well, we will find out next week the verdict on this pine tree. It still has green on it, but lots of brown and gray needles. I sure hope it isn't dead or dying. I have had fun decorating it at holidays. And I watched it grow for years. We shall find out soon what is happening with it.
